Evergreen branchy shrub with cylindrical stem that can exceed 2 meters in height, with reddish bark that becomes gray with age, sessile oval leaves, opposite and pointed, the white flowers are supported by a long reddish peduncle, the berries are small and black. It grows spontaneously in the Mediterranean regions.
The essential oil is obtained from the leaves and young twigs with the method of steam distillation and a light orange liquid is obtained which gives off an intense perfume.
