Copal or Coppale is a plant resin native to the Philippines or Indonesia that comes in crystals of different sizes.
It is soluble in 94 ° alcohol to obtain very filling and brilliant final paints on absorbent substrates such as wood, paper, etc.
It can be added to harder resins such as shellac and sandracca to reduce the cost. It is also used to increase low hardness in model paints, oil and mineral resistant paints, and brush or smear furniture paints.
Also known as a binder for pigments and earths. It can be burned like incense.
